DIY Water Blob for Summer Fun with the Kids!

This photo went viral this morning, and at first, I wasn’t even sure what it was. Turns out, it’s essentially a plastic outdoor water bed that you can make for under $30. Apparently, kids love it.
I wouldn’t mind rolling around on it myself during a hot summer day.

DIY Water Blob for Kids

Here are the supplies you’ll need:

  • A plastic drop cloth (painter’s plastic, 10×20 or 10×25)
  • Baking paper
  • Duct tape
  • Either a Hair Straightener or an Iron
About that last thing — there are two methods making the blob, so depending on whether you’ve got a hair straightener or iron, you will want to check out two different guides.
Both are basically the same: you fold the plastic over itself, make it a square, and then fold the baking paper over the top of the edges of the plastic. Then you melt the plastic onto the baking paper with an iron or straightener, creating a waterproof seal.

Happy blobbing!

Kids really, really like these, it turns out:
