Accessorizing Tips to Breathe New Life into Your Patio

I recently had some friends of mine ask for a backyard design consultation, and I was more than happy to oblige. They wanted to update the look of an already beautiful stone-fenced patio.

The front yard was well-manicured, with a small front stoop and a matching geometric patterned brick driveway and path. While not symmetrical, the front exterior gives a sense of order, with straight lines and right angles.

The backyard boasts a beautiful stone-fenced patio with modern stone tiling.

The first thing I noticed was a distinct lack of outdoor lighting. I made some basic recommendations for some mood lighting that would also allow the area to be more usable in the evenings.

The only lighting out there came from a few small exterior lights mounted to the house. I suggested they add some outdoor lamps, which they could hang from their stone fence, or from a lattice.

The patio seating was really underwhelming for the size of the space. These two chairs were all they had! We’re replacing these boring black chairs with four red Adirondack chairs around a modern fire pit.

The tile walkway near the entrance way indoors was definitely wide enough for a hammock, so… you guessed it! They’re going to be getting one. It’s absolutely gorgeous, too:

Don’t be so afraid of “cluttering” your outdoor design that you end up like my clients, with a beautifully bare outdoor space that looks good enough, but isn’t exactly inviting as a living space. With the addition of a few great outdoor accessories from Designed for Outdoors, we’re going to be able to add some extra style and functionality to an already beautiful home.
